Hello Everyone!

Google just released an awesome new video editor for Google Photos! Well, it will probably have been out for just under a week by the time this post comes out. In this post I wanted to show what it can do and try to edit a video using it. Hope that you enjoy!

Availability

The video editor is available for Google Pixel users and Google One subscribers. I believe that it is now rolling out to more people soon but do not know for sure.

Features:

The edits available right now are basic but effective. In my opinion, it is so difficult to find even a simple video editor that works well for android. Below I have a screenshot of the first three edits that you can do:

As you can see, the edits that I have done already highlight in blue. I did some minor color adjustments to this clip to start. I then moved on to the highlights/shadows edits.

Next I went to some more color edits for saturation, tint, and warmth. I don’t normally mess with tint in photos or videos but for this clip I did.

Finally, I edited the skin tone and the blue colors. The skin tone edit does work even if there are no faces interestingly.

That isn’t although! There are filters that you can add as well! I went for the vivid filter which made just a small change in the colors.

In the “More tab” you can draw on the video which is cool. You can also see that I skipped over the crop tab but that the only new addition there is an auto crop which is pretty cool. 🙂

I removed my drawing and exported the clip and came out with this short clip:

The clip was recorded on my EOS 250d, so I didn’t fill up the storage on my Google Pixel 4a (and to get a higher resolution).

Also, I’ve never used Kapwing before so tell me how it works out on your end!

Thoughts:

I really like this editor. It definitely matches perfectly with the Google Photos photo editor. If I had to pick one feature that I would want to be added, it would have to be an option to combine clips and/or add photos to clips. Another awesome feature would be portrait mode video. If you didn’t know, on Google Pixels, you can add portrait mode to photos after the photo is taken. There are other companies that already have portrait mode video and if it came to Pixels I think that it would be pretty awesome.

Conclusion:

I hope that Google continues improving the video editor because they are really on to something. I personally thought that it was weird that Pixels had no video editor before this for anything except cropping. iMovie on iPhones is feature packed and I hope that maybe one day Google can get the editor to have just as many features.

I really hope that you enjoyed this post! Comment below what you think of this new editor and if you don’t have access to it let me know if you would use it. I’d really appreciate it if you could applaud this post and follow the blog! Visit my main blog on WordPress at:
